Doula Services

As a Birth Doula during labor I can help you with breathing techniques, help with decreasing stress, be a support person,  give soothing massages, I also support the father and others who are  present, helping you to participate in the birth, I give you encouragement and more.

What is a Certified Doula ?

A Doula is a person that goes through a training and certification process. They are trained to assess and recognize the physical and emotional needs of a mother to be. A doula is a non-medical labor assistant.  They do not give medical advice or perform any medical tasks. Doulas provide informational support to you and your partner to help with decisions you will be expected to make throughout your journey.  They physically support a mother in  different types of ways. They will suggest alternative positions for the mother, remind her to maintain  her fluid intake, make sure she goes to the bathroom  frequently, or offer the use of heat/cold therapy for stress and pain relief. A doula helps with emotional needs by showing her coping skills such as breathing techniques, relaxing touch or using focus attention during a contraction, and other stress reduction techniques.

WHY USE A DOULA:  Research has continually shown proven benefits when birth is attended by a doula/support person.  There were, 50% fewer caesarean sections. 60% fewer requests for epidurals, 40 % reduction in Pitocin inductions or augmentations, 30%  decrease use of pain medication, 25% decrease time in labor, and Increased rates of breastfeeding at 6 weeks postpartum.  Higher self-esteem and less depression at 6 weeks postpartum.   WOW.... doulas are awesome!!
